Glenn Beck: “I don’t want my History changed …we’ll decide together!”
Unbelievably, today - on the day much of the world woke up to the news that Senator Ted Kennedy had died - Glenn Beck went on a tirade accusing President Obama of "hijacking" the meaning of 9-11 by signing the The Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act into law. With Audio of Beck Show; Colbert Video
The Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act (formerly the Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education [GIVE] Act) authorizes a dramatic funding increase for AmeriCorps and other volunteer programs, and the creation of new programs for seniors and veterans. It establishes a goal of expanding the number of government-supported volunteers from 75,000 to 250,000, and would increase education funding and establish a summer volunteer program for students, paying $500 (which would be applied to college costs) to high-school and middle-school students who participate.President Barack Obama signed the legislation on April 21, 2009. While it authorizes $5.7 billion over six years, Congress must still approve the funding as part of the budget.
This bill was introduced into the senate on 9/12/2008, coincidentally the same month and day Beck wants to use for his own 9/12 project. This must really stick in his craw because Beck was so angry he could not contain himself, which of course isn’t saying much.
Beck, of course, fails to mention that 9-11 was declared by President Bush to be Patriot Day.
