O'Reilly Calls Palin "Regular Folks"

On tonight’s (7/27/09) “Reality Check,” Bill O’Reilly checked Sarah Palin out a couple of times. With video.

O’Reilly began, “Check one . . . as you know, Sarah Palin resigned as Alaska’s Governor. She will write a book and give speeches around the country. Never one to duck controversy, she went out with a slam.”

Roll the clips of the fair wordmeister, Bill.

“First, some straight talk for some – just some – in the media . . . Democracy depends on you . . . Our troops are willing to die for you. So, how ‘bout, in honor of the American soldier, ya quit making things up.”

“. . . One other thing for the media: Our new Governor has a very nice family too, so leave his kids alone.”

“You’re gonna see anti-hunting, anti-Second Amendment circuses from Hollywood . . . They use these delicate, tiny . . . starlets. They use Alaska as a fund-raising tool for their anti-Second Amendment causes . . . Hollywood needs to know, we eat, therefore we hunt.”

“I would not want to be in Ms. Palin’s hunting zone.” Wow, does that mean she’s gonna shoot somebody – or are you saying she is, in fact, in more than a few peoples’ crosshairs? It’s a puzzler.

O’Reilly continued checking Palin out: “Check two . . . proving the Governor correct, the elite media just can’t let go of her.”

Roll the clip of the goddamn liberal.

Carl Bernstein: “I think there’s a fundamental problem in the way that we have viewed her perhaps too seriously since she was a candidate . . . She’s a demagogue, she’s ignorant, she’s a flake . . . and I think that there is a kind of obeisance that the conservative movement has paid to this person . . .If a liberal Democrat were to be in a similar condition, conservatives would rightly would run her out of town, as would sensible Democrats . . . (McCain) really committed an almost unpatriotic act in picking Sarah Palin because she’s manifestly unqualified for high office.”

Current WaPo editorialist Jonathan Capehart: “I agree with Carl 100% -- I’ve been mystified and fascinated by her rise and her presence on the national stage.”

“Sarah Palin’s appeal is easy to understand,” O’Reilly lectured, “But these people will never understand. Regular folks tend to like regular folks – and she’s ‘regular folks.’ That’s it.”

Oh, that’s it? Just regular folks, huh? Well, Bill, I’ve got a newsflash for you: Palin was never ‘regular folks.’ I mean, I just rodded out my utility room drain tonight, so yeah, I’m ‘regular folks.’ I also don’t think I’d blend in all that well with rifle-people and turkey-grinding people. Oh, and my only daughter (for one thing, because she is no longer a teenager) will never be a pregnant teenager and be forced to parade around the RNC stage in a hideous black dress to hide signs of early pregnancy – while clutching the hand of the baby daddy, er, fiancé -- because I just want that Vice-Presidency so, so much.

But I do agree Palin’s appeal is easy to figure. See, water seeks its own level – and her level is the same, now that I think about it, as the black water that oozed out of my drain tonight.
