Where's Griff Jenikins? CA GOP Voter Registration Honcho Pleads Guilty To Voter Registration Fraud

Reported by Ellen - June 18, 2009 -

Brad Blog reported yesterday that the head of the voter registration firm hired by the California Republican Party to head up their voter registration efforts in the state pleaded guilty to voter registration fraud. Brad also noted that Jacoby's arrest occurred last October "smack dab during the media's orgasmic heights of last year's phony GOP ACORN 'Voter Fraud' hoax, even as Fox 'News' (and the other news outlets who similarly fell for the scam) were going wall-to-wall with their unsupported insinuations about voter fraud by ACORN, Democrats and Obama." But it's funny how little coverage that arrest and now the guilty plea has gotten.

Yesterday, Fox sent Griff Jenkins to ambush ACORN members attending an anniversary party (check out this video for Open Left's Adam Green table-turning ambush on Jenkins) yesterday. Glenn Beck said he'd keep Jenkins "in a little celebrity box" throughout his show. Think Jacoby will get even a smidgen of that attention? A search of Foxnews.com indicates the expected answer: No, not unless they blame ACORN.

A discussion from Happening Now last fall had Fox News reporter Eric Shawn baselessly implicating ACORN in Jacoby's arrest. "What really is interesting is the fact that the Secretary of State of California is a Democrat," Shawn said before helpfully noting that the California GOP claimed the arrest was "politically motivated" and that the Secretary of State "has been in a race endorsed by ACORN so they raise the potential issue that... could this be connected to or inspired by ACORN?" Shawn never offered any proof that it was, just raised the issue and thus gave credibility to the GOP spin.

Beck duly noted Jacoby's arrest but claimed that it didn't lack the import of ACORN's so-called fraud because Jacoby doesn't get federal grants. Well, neither do the ACORN voter registration people who were hired by ACORN. Unlike Jacoby, none of the top ACORN people have pleaded guilty to voter registration fraud. As ACORN's Scott Levenson tried to explain to a hysterical Megyn Kelly, ACORN's work on the Census, presumably Beck's real problem with them, is unrelated to their voter registration efforts. Furthermore, Barney Frank told Beck's audience, when Frank was ambushed by Jenkins, he has not seen any indication that ACORN had misspent any federal money (money, Frank drily noted, that had been awarded ACORN by the Bush administration). “If someone has evidence... no one has sent it to me yet,” he told Jenkins. Funny how, despite Beck's constant teeth-gnashing about ACORN, he has yet to send Frank such evidence.

Otherwise, the only discussion of Jacoby or Young Political Majors I found was when Brad himself appeared on Fox last fall and broke a "Fox News Alert" about Jacoby's arrest as part of an appearance about the impact of the housing crisis on the election. "I hope you guys will carry that as much as y'all are carrying this phony ACORN voter fraud hoax," Brad told host Julie Banderas.

"We will look into that," Banderas replied. "Of course, if it is fact, then we will report it." Then she moved on.
