On yesterday's (5/14/09) Your World, Neil Cavuto asked Governor Rick Perry (R-TX) about his recent comments suggesting Texas might secede from the union. Perry denied having made such a comment and then went right on to suggest again that Texas might do so. First, he told Cavuto, "I see no reason at all for us to be even talking about seceeding, but if Washington continues to force these programs on the states, if Washington continues to disregard the 10th Amendment, who knows what happens? There may be people standing up all across the country in tea parties saying 'Enough alright.'" Not only was there no outrage from Cavuto, "pro America" Fox News helpfully (and misleadingly) posted a friendly banner saying, "Gov. Perry proud to stand with tea party protesters." With video.

Cavuto pressed, if the country continues that path, would Perry consider that option?

"Here’s what I’m saying," Perry replied, "(Americans) are frustrated; in some cases, they fear for the future of their children and they are really upset that Washington's not paying attention to them. I love the concept of the tea parties and people using that first amendment right and I hope that Washington starts paying attention to the Tenth Amendment and allow states to get back to being the laboratory of innovation and competition."

Cavuto moved on without noting that Perry had refused to rule out seceding.
