Misinformer Hannity Does It Again! He Falsely Accuses La Raza Of Advocating For Mexico To Reclaim Southwestern States
Reported by Ellen - February 27, 2009 -
Sean Hannity, Media Matters' Misinformer of the Year for 2008, once again earned his title on last night's (2/26/09) Hannity. Criticizing Obama's budget, Hannity complained that it included $473,000 for La Raza, “which, by the way, has called for Mexico to annex southwestern states.” Wrongo! With video.
The National Council of La Raza, on a website page devoted to combatting mischaracterizations of its organization, states clearly and unequivocally,
Another misconception about NCLR is the allegation that we support a “Reconquista,” or the right of Mexico to reclaim land in the southwestern United States. NCLR has not made and does not make any such claim; indeed, such a claim is so far outside of the mainstream of the Latino community that we find it incredible that our critics raise it as an issue. NCLR has never supported and does not endorse the notion of a “Reconquista” or “Aztlán.”
...NCLR’s work as a civil rights institution is about inclusion and participation in the American Dream, including extensive efforts to assist new immigrants in the process of fully integrating into American life. In fact, NCLR and its Affiliates work everyday to provide English classes, support naturalization efforts, and offer other services that help integrate immigrants fully into American society.
What kind of news network, much less one that boasts about its fairness and balance, allows one of its star hosts to repeatedly tell lies?
