O'Reilly Caught Lying About Illinois Governors

Reported by Ellen - January 27, 2009 -

From oreilly-sucks.com:

1-27-09 -- Last night O'Reilly talked about corruption and Rod Blagojevich during the show. Then he said every Illinois Governor who went to jail was a Democrat. This is a flat out lie, and a total fraud by Bill O'Reilly.

UPDATED. O'Reilly corrected himself later in the segment.

Since 1929 six Illinois Governors have been indicted or convicted of corruption, three were Republicans and two were Democrats. Blagojevich can not be counted yet because he is not in jail, has not been indicted, and has not been convicted. In fact, the one Illinois Governor who did go to jail recently was George H. Ryan, and he is a REPUBLICAN.

The most corrupt Governor of Illinois was George H. Ryan, he was the Republican Governor of Illinois from 1999 until 2003. Investigations into widespread corruption during his administration led to his retirement from politics in 2003 and federal corruption convictions in 2006. Ryan entered federal prison on November 7, 2007, to begin serving a sentence of six and a half years.

UPDATE 1: I have received a few comments that O'Reilly corrected himself later in the show. This post came from another blog and I have written to them to ask about that. I did see last night's show, myself, and I do not remember O'Reilly correcting the record. However, it's possible that occurred. I am not all that interested in the Blagojevich scandal and tend to tune out discussions about it.

UPDATE 2: I have heard from Steve at oreilly-sucks.com and he is adamant that O'Reilly never corrected the record. In his email to me, Steve wrote: I watched the entire show and took notes, then I wrote a blog review, at no time did O'Reilly correct it, in that show, or tonight. I watched every minute, and there was no correction.

I saw an update to Steve's original post noting that O'Reilly did not correct the record on tonight's show, either.

UPDATE 3: The ever-sniveling, hyperventilating Mark Koldys a/k/a Johnny Dollar, has posted audio of O'Reilly correcting himself. Koldys could have contacted us and I would have happily corrected my post, as, unlike him, I am more interested in truth than in tearing anyone down.
