McCain Refuses To Endorse Palin Presidency in 2012

Reported by Ellen - January 17, 2009 -

During an interview on Hannity last night (1/16/09), John McCain made very sure not to endorse Sarah Palin for president in 2012. That came moments after he said how proud he was of her and that he thought she could be president “one day.” With video. UPDATED: McCain said something similar last month (link at the end of the post).

During the interview, McCain told Sean Hannity, “Oh, I'm very proud!” of Sarah Palin. But when Hannity asked if McCain thought Palin “could be president one day,” he immediately began backing off.

JM: Sure, sure. But I'd also like to point out that it's very early in this whole season... There's gonna be, I think, a spirited contest for the nomination of our party and I think there are also other governors that will be competitive. People like Bobby Jindal and Jon Hunstman and Tim Pawlenty and Mark Sanford... Governors now, I think, are gonna be, play a enhanced role in the direction of the Republican Party. One reason is because they're talent(ed) and another is 'cause they govern.

UPDATE: Our terrific Paige reminded me that McCain said something similar on This Week in December.
