“Grapevine” Quotes Noted Islamophobe (Whoops – “Terrorism Expert”) In Order To Smear US Representative Keith Ellison

Fear of Islam is certainly a “trump card” in Fox’s “scary” deck. Like the red baiting that went on during the McCarthy era, it provides a handy scapegoat and diversion from the real issues besetting this country. It appeals to those who love to hate anybody or anything that isn’t part of their narrow social cohort and even narrower world view. Fox is the network that gives a forum to the Islamophobic Dennis Prager whose smear of Keith Ellison, on the Sean Hannity show, earned Prager a rebuke from the Washington DC Holocaust Memorial Committee. Right wing hate radio host Mike Gallagher has used Fox News to promote “Muslim profiling” at airports. And Fox is the only network who interviews and uses information from perhaps paranoid “terrorism expert” Steve Emerson, who sees Jihad as the cause of every act of destruction including the 1995 bombing of the Federal Building in Oklahoma City (Whoopsie), to support its anti-Islamic memes. So it’s not surprising that Fox, in promoting its Islamophobic agenda, turns to Emerson. And in so doing, they get to smear Keith Ellison – again.
Friday’s “Grapevine” echoes the wording in an article ,posted on their “Transition Tracker” website, which begins with the information that Keith Ellison is the first U.S. Representative to have made the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca .(Are ya scared yet!?) But “Grapevine” notes that “terrorism expert” Steve Emerson says that the group that paid for the trip “has ties to Islamic extremism.” (Are ya even more scared?) Emerson claims that the parent group of the Muslim American Society (MAS) is equivalent to the Neo Nazi party (Comment: funny, I don’t remember if Fox reported on Alaskan secessionists ties (Palin’s pals) to Neo Nazis.) “Grapevine” noted that Ellison claims that MAS was founded by the Muslim Brotherhood which has ties to Hamas and Al Qaeda. “Grapevine” didn’t include the information, included on the website article, that “the Justice Department has never taken action against MAS.” “Grapevine” did include a comment from Ellison’s office that the group is “widely respected.” “Grapevine” did not note that MAS has “earned the respect of the Minnesota Council of Churches and the St. Paul Police Department.”
Comment: Fox News wants you to be scared of Keith Ellison and “radical" Minnesota Muslims. And in order to “prove” this “threat” they bring Steve Ellison out of his bat cave. (although his persona is more like “the Joker”) Ellison does have a problem with credibility; but when you’re dealing with propaganda, who needs credibility? And btw, postscript on Prager’s smear about “scary” Ellison being sworn in on the “scary” Koran - his swearing-in (not officially connected to the House formalities) was done on a Koran owned by former US President Thomas Jefferson – who, as an open minded and secular product of the Enlightenment, would be appalled (I suspect) by Fox News and its fear factor. Fox, on the other hand, would include Jefferson in its list of America haters and public enemies as Mr. Jefferson said these words, in his treaty with the Barbary Pirates: “As the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion,-as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion or tranquility of Musselmen” – you wouldn’t think so if you watched Fox News!
