Neil Cavuto "Proves" That Fox is Fair and Balanced

Reported by Melanie - December 3, 2008 -

One of the segments Neil Cavuto, Fox's "premiere business news" anchor aired today (December 3, 2008) was captioned, "Is America Yearning for Straight Talk from Washington?" Cavuto's guest was Jane Hampton Cook who was identified as a "presidential historian." (A relevant bit of info that was kept from Cavuto's audience is that Cook identifies herself as a "bestselling author and columnist" (not as a "presidential historian) and she is a "former webmaster for President George W. Bush (1998-2003), Jane served two years as White House deputy director of Internet news services and three years in the Texas governor’s office." Maybe it's just me but - speaking of fair and balanced - I think that matters.)

At one point Cook said politicians fail to provide a "hopeful message for our future as Americans." Cavuto agreed wholeheartedly and said "of course, Ronald Reagan was famous for that" and played a June, 1982 clip of Reagan saying, "to ignore the facts of history and the aggressive impulses of an evil empire. To simply call the arms race a giant misunderstanding and thereby remove yourself from a struggle between right and wrong, and good and evil." Cavuto said, "He called the Soviets for what they were!" Of course Cook agreed and went on to praise Reagan's "vision" and the "hope" that we're not seeing today.

Cavuto thought that was a "bingo" moment and "to prove then we're and balanced, from the Democrats now, their hero, Franklin Roosevelt at a crucial time in American history. Let's listen." Roosevelt: "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." Then the two of them went on to praise Roosevelt for saying "we will not just endure, we will prosper."

Comment: This is absurd (and sad and hilarious at the same time) of course but there is a segment of our society (excuse me a sec while I dig through our email) that believes this, lock, stock and barrel.
