Tidbit: Cavuto: The Day in Quotes

Reported by Melanie - December 1, 2008 -

Neil Cavuto, Fox's "premiere business news" anchor was full of himself today (December 1, 2008). Here are a few choice quotes:

4:00 p.m. ET - top of the show - "Well, ever since he started picking his team, Barack Obama has been seeing nothing but stock market net up for every cabinet pick he brought up. Until today. Markets that had run up fast slamming down hard today. The industrials off better than 7% today. A 673 point hit that works out to be the fourth biggest point hit in market history."

Introducing Wayne County (Michigan) Commissioner Robert Ficano, an advocate of helping the automakers, Cavuto said the appearance of the CEO's before congress this week will be "the big three beg-a-thon."

During the segment with Ficano, Cavuto gave his usual spiel about how if we "bailout" GM et al., we'll have to bailout the housing industry, the petrochemical industry and the real estate industry. Ficano replied: "Another unique aspect is the homeland security. You're talking about what was ah, during World War II, what was the arsenal of democracy. You're talking about companies that really, if we go into a ground war, they're the ones that are gonna be making the tanks, the technology and everything else ah, and so it's critically important that we continue to keep this industry alive. Not only for the jobs and the further collapse if they go down, but also from a homeland security standpoint." Cavuto's response? "That sounds like a threat. You need us for the country's very survival so if you ignore us, you're ignoring your own survival? That sounds kinda goofy, doesn't it?"

Heading to a break with a promo: "And then this. You betcha. The election is over but in Georgia it is still raging. And don't ya know who's leading the charge to keep a crucial senate seat there in Republican hands? I'll give you a hint. It is the woman pictured, in this video, on the left." The woman? Sarah Palin. (The chyron? "Senate 'Savior'?")

After the break, introducing John Ensign (R-NV), the chair of the NRSC to talk about Sarah Palin stumping in Georgia (for Saxby Chambliss, who's treated here as an afterthought but if he wins tomorrow he'll be the new hero of the GOP): "Now, to the aforementioned Georgia. When it comes to star power to help tip the voting scales in favor of a Republican candidate like Saxby Chambliss, in tomorrow's crucial senate showdown, you betcha, they don't get much bigger than Sarah Palin..."
