Cavuto Repeats Outdated, Inaccurate GOP Talking Point that Palin's Approval Rating Still Stands at 80%

Reported by Melanie - October 2, 2008 -

Neil Cavuto hosted another ex-Clintonite-turned-McCain/Palinite this afternoon (October 2, 2008) and as he ended the segment he said this about Palin: "And she was an underdog and she did beat the establishment and she has an 80% approval rating, the highest of any governor of any state." (The guy is a walking GOP talking point.) And I got to wonderin' whether, given all the information that has come out about her since her nomination and all the shenanigans that have gone on in Alaska surrounding Troopergate, whether she still stood at 80% there.

Turns out that the answer is a big fat no. In the weeks since her nomination Palin has suffered a "hefty drop" and her approval rating now stands at 68%.

Additionally, Brad Coker, the managing director of Mason-Dixon Polling & Research Inc., put the lie to Cavuto's contention that the 80% rating is "the highest of any governor of any state." Coker said his recent polling in six western states found two governors with approval ratings in the low-80s.

Comment: So, even though Cavuto spends his life in a big tall building in New York City with information being fed in from around the world about everything under the Sun, the guy doesn't do any research to find out whether what he's being told to tell you is actually accurate and/or up-to-date so believe him at your peril.
