Fox Unprepared for the Drop in the Dow

Reported by Melanie - September 29, 2008 -

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped nearly 700 points this afternoon (September 29, 2008), immediately after the bailout bill was rejected by the House, but Fox News seemed totally unprepared for that possibility. Even Neil Cavuto, the head of business news for the entire Fox News organization (including Fox's FBN channel), seemed oblivious.

Here is what Trace Gallagher yelled out at 1:47 p.m. E. T. today during his show, "Live Desk," as if speaking more to his producers than to the audience:

"The Dow is plummeting! When the vote came in it was down around 237 points. It is now down 687 points. We are trying to grab somebody, Neil Cavuto or anybody who's in the building that can come down and talk to us about this. It'd be great to get your insight to feel out exactly what's going on at Wall and Broad as it relates."

A few minutes later Cavuto showed up.

Comment: Hello! It's unbelievable that they didn't have a business news person (such as the "business news" people are on Fox) sitting with them during the entire show. Yes, it's all politics all the time on Fox but are they so wedded to that that they didn't anticipate that the market might have a problem with the bailout failing?! Why weren't they discussing that possibility throughout the day up until the time it did fail? Oh, that's right. They were too busy blaming the Democrats for this mess.
