A rare glimpse of Todd Palin; McCain uses "Barracuda" without permission

Reported by Chrish - September 5, 2008 -

As soon as I read that Sarah Palin was once nicknamed "Barracuda" I remarked that the McCain camp would probably use the Heart tune, and in keeping with their obvious disregard for other people's property rights, use it without permission. Also included in the segment briefly addressing the issue on FOX and Friends this morning 9/5/08 (you gotta watch this one) was a brief look at Mr. Sarah Palin, the man who would be second squared.
With video.

Mr. Palin is obviously not comfortable in front of a crowd, and I can sympathize. But to FOX and Friends, this lack of ease was a plus - it means he's not a Washington insider. Gretchen Carlson reckons he hasn't been inside the Beltway more than a coupla times - I'd go her one better and wager he's never been and doesn't care to.

They sequed into a quick segment about McCain's co-opting of the Heart tune without permission, managing to demonize the Wilson sisters (who unbeknownst to Brain Kilmeade are Heart) for immediately calling and threatening legal action, rather than chastising McCain for his rip-off. This is not the first time, hardly, that McCain has used artists' work without permission and been called out for it; the list of victims includes John Mellencamp, Jackson Browne, Mike Meyers, Frankie Valli, ABBA, Orleans (that's Democratic Rep. John Hall's band), and Chuck Berry.

This disregard for other people's copyrighted material is in direct contradiction of his stated policy goal of "effectively protecting American intellectual property in the United States and around the globe."

FOX and Friends, operating under Fair Use law that allows us to run the embedded clips we use, did McCain's dirty work for him and played the "Barracuda" clip one more time in a "we'll show them" move.
