Gustav threatens off-shore drilling platforms in Gulf of Mexico

Reported by Chrish - August 28, 2008 -

FOX and Friends has heavily promoted the Republican (oil) platform of "drill here, drill now," with head cheerleader Newt Gingrich appearing frequently to convince viewers that we can and should drill our way to energy independence and immediate relief from high gas prices. Of course this has all been debunked thoroughly, with the Bush Energy Department chief among the sources that assert that it will be 2030 before we see any of this "new" oil on the world market and the financial benefit to consumers will be minimal.

But also not discussed on FOX is the fact that oil companies already hold leases on 68 million acres of prime US real estate, available for exploration and, should they find considerable reserves, drilling. Will FOX viewers make the connection between the fairytales they've been told and this recent piece of information from Janice Dean the Weather Machine? And will they make the connection between oil production, increased demand and consumption, global warming, and more damaging hurricanes like Katrina and Gustav?

Best wishes to all in the path of this latest weather threat.
