Despite Reporting Otherwise, FOX News Banners Repeatedly Suggest That Obama Campaign Requires Volunteer Work To Attend His Convention Speech

Reported by Ellen - August 14, 2008 -

In their never-ending quest to divide the Democratic Party (while mostly ignoring the divisions in the Republican Party), Hannity & Colmes devoted a segment last night to the “issue” of reports that Barack Obama’s campaign supposedly requires volunteer work in exchange for a ticket to Obama’s acceptance speech during the Democratic convention. Sean Hannity announced in the introduction that that is not the case. Nevertheless, a series of banners on the lower third of the screen throughout the segment kept suggesting otherwise. With video.

In his introduction, Hannity said, “The Democratic National Convention is less than two weeks away and some Party members are now at odds with Senator Obama. It seems that folks hoping to hear his convention speech were angered when their ticket application contained a question asking if they’d be willing to volunteer for the campaign. Several applicants interpreted that as a trade-off for a seat at the speech. Now the campaign says you don’t have to volunteer in order to qualify for a ticket. However, it is important to note that even if you do offer your time, there are no guarantees you will get a seat.”

As a UPI story points out, volunteers will get preference for some tickets but, as Hannity said, volunteering is neither required nor a guarantee of a seat.

But the FOX News producers ran the following banners indicating otherwise:

* Report: Obama convention speech tickets come with a catch
* Obama ticket for convention speech could require volunteer work
* Report: 6 Hrs. volunteer work if you want chance to see Obama
speak at DNC
