Fox Broadcasts Cell Phone Video from the Floor of the House of Representatives (Is that Legal?)

Reported by Melanie - August 1, 2008 -

Think about this (it happened today (August 1, 2008) on Your World w/Neil Cavuto): This afternoon, after Nancy Pelosi adjourned the House of Representatives and turned out the lights, House Republicans decided to stay on the floor to "demand a vote on drilling." Obviously, without the presence of the Democrats, that wasn't going to happen but that's beside the point.

If you're a Republican, you want Americans to believe Republicans are working FOR YOU because they want to open ANWR and the Outer Continental Shelf so "we" can drill for oil there. They want you to believe they CARE but they need the video to prove it. (Polls seem to show that this drilling issue is paying off. I think it's the 2008 version of the Swift Boating of John Kerry but in this case it applies to all Democrats, not just Barack Obama, which is handy.)

So, the Republicans wonder, how do we publicize this? House cameras are turned off. C-SPAN isn't broadcasting because, according to C-Span's Brian Lamb, House cameras are solely operated under the discretion of the speaker and the session has adjourned. Aha hah! Bingo! Put someone on the floor with a cell phone and a link to Fox "News" and send Fox a live feed, and they'll put it on the air. Yeah! That's what we'll do. And then we'll hold a press conference to talk about how all we want to do is help "the people;" good "struggling Americans," but the Democrats won't let us, and Fox will broadcast that live too. Hey, isn't it great having our own "news" channel? And we don't care if this has never been done before in the history of the United States. And we don't care if we're breaking the rules, and neither does Fox. Making the Democrats look like they don't care about suffering Americans is all that matters because we CAN'T LET THEM WIN IN NOVEMBER and man-o-man we're strikin' gold with this crap. It's playin' in Peoria like nothin' else!

(I watched the first few minutes of America's Election Headquarters which comes on immediately after Your World. The first segment featured Fox producer Chad Pergram who, surprise, surprise, just happened to be standing in the Capitol Rotunda. Wonder if he was the one holding the cell phone?)

Below is a two-part video and some screen shots for those who can't access YouTube.

In the background during the live segment, someone can be heard saying, "This is the 2008 version of the Boston Tea Party," and substitute host Stuart Varney says he doesn't know "how they got it, but they got it." Later, after the break, during the "Exclusive New Video" segment, Varney says "we got this out on a cell phone and you can't see this anywhere else."

UPDATE: I knew it! Fox arranged the whole thing...all in the name of "gorilla" journalism. Interesting the lengths they're willing to go to to report "news" that benefits the GOP. Can you imagine how loud, and how long Fox would scream if the Democrats did this?!
