Fox "Business News" Blames Democrats for Today's Oil Price "Surge," but Surprise, Surprise, it Ain't True

Reported by Melanie - July 30, 2008 -

Fox "business news" continued its ongoing crusade on behalf of the oil giants (and John McCain) today (July 30, 2008) by lying about why the price of oil jumped nearly $5 a barrel. A preponderance of the articles on the Internet say it jumped after, "The Energy Information Administration said U.S. gasoline supplies fell by 3.5 million barrels last week. Analysts surveyed by energy research firm Platts expected gas supplies to increase by 400,000 barrels." But there was also this about the resignation of the Israeli prime minister and some news about events in Nigeria.

But what did the "fair and balanced news" channel report? This, from the top of the hour on Your World:

"Showdown! Oil soaring as President Bush comes out swinging. Crude up nearly five bucks today. The president demanding Democrats stop holding up a vote on drilling. Welcome everyone, I'm Brian Sullivan in for Neil Cavuto. Neil will be back on Monday. But right now, congress gearing up for its summer getaway but will Democrats get away without a vote on drilling?"

With that Sullivan went on to a yelling match with congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) about when "we" can drill in ANWR and the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS).

Here's the video (26 seconds). Look at how dramatic the presentation is.

Comment: Lies, lies, lies. Fox not only lied about why oil "surged" but it continues to lie (lo these many weeks) when it says that "if Democrats" would only "let us" drill in the OCS and in ANWR why, it'd be like sticking a straw in the ground; the oil would come gushing out, and we'd have near instant gratification. We are being sold a fake bill of goods by this "news" organization on behalf of the oil companies who are trying to get it now, while they can, in case Obama wins in November, and, because this issue seems to be helping John McCain. Its nothing but full-blown propaganda.
