Dobson: principles, schminciples

Reported by Chrish - July 21, 2008 -

On FOX and Friends this morning 7/21/08 Steve Doocy reported that James Dobson, leader of the far-right evangelical group Focus on the Family, may be flip-flopping on his declaration of 18 months ago that "Speaking as a private individual, I would not vote for John McCain under any circumstances." Perhaps at the time he never envisioned Barack Obama as the "circumstances."

The looming flip-flop was gently characterized as "shifting position," as usually happens when it's one of their own doing the shifting. Dobson is quoted as saying

"...I never thought I would hear myself saying this but it's where I am. While I am not endorsing Senator John McCain, the possibility is there that I might and that's all I can say at this time.”

The Friends agreed that it's good news for McCain, as the once mighty religious right presumably tucks tail, holds its collective nose, and follows Dobson in voting for the not-Obama.
