Reported by Ellen - July 8, 2008 -

According to FOX News' parent corporation, News Corp., they are.

The Sunday Times of London reported on July 6 that "Hundreds of endangered monkeys are being taken from the African bush and sent to a “secretive” laboratory in Iran for scientific experiments." in a story titled ‘Germ warfare’ fear over African monkeys taken to Iran. The story was then broadcast on America's Newsroom on FOX News Channel on July 7 without mention of the fact that Fox News Channel and The Sunday Times of London are both part of News Corp.

The banner under Bill Hemmer's lead-in for the piece stated, "REPORT: Monkeys being used for research in bio-weapons testing." While the interview with Peter Brookes, Senior Fellow, National Security Affairs for The Heritage Foundation, never states definitively that the monkeys were shipped to Iran for bio-weapons testing, the tone of the interview certainly wasn't designed to comfort the audience.

Comment: A quick Google search for "monkeys Africa secret lab Iran" produces about 1.5 million results (mostly off-topic). The top results are all variations of the Sunday Times story bandied about the right-wing blogosphere. If there was ever any doubt that News Corp was sounding the clarion call for war in Iran before the November elections, just look at what it is pumping out.
