John Kasich Offended By Black National Anthem At Denver Public Event

Reported by Deborah - July 4, 2008 -

Last night John Kasich, subbing for Bill O'Reilly, was outraged that Rene Marie unexpectedly chose to sing Lift Ev'ry Voice And Sing at a public event in Denver instead of the traditional national anthem. Charles Brown, Denver City Councilman and Marc Lamont Hill, Temple University were there to discuss the issue. Dr. Lamont Hill eventually summed up the outrage when he noted that they would have been much less offended had she sung America The Beautiful

Here is Rene Marie's statement explaining why she made the choice to sing Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing. Brown portrayed her as self centered and and inconsiderate. Kasich and Brown suggested her motives were both political and hostile. Marie's explanation of her motives are more complex and artistically based. She also made an important point that she considers herself a member of the Denver community and not a hostile outsider like she has been portrayed.

comment: One might wonder about John Kasich and Bill O'Reilly's motives in airing this story in order to stir up racial discord and distrust of Barack Obama. Seems pretty political to me. Once again, Bill O'Reilly's hypocrisy shines bright.
