Neil Cavuto — the Editor of Business News at the Fox News Channel and at the Fox Business Network — is a Bald Faced Liar

Reported by Melanie - June 22, 2008 -

He Repeats a Lie Dick Cheney Told, but Retracted, Nine (That Would be NINE) Days Earlier

On June 11, Dick Cheney claimed that, "oil is being drilled right now 60 miles off the coast of Florida. But we're not doing it, the Chinese are, in cooperation with the Cuban government." Later that day, McClatchy exposed Cheney's lie and quoted Florida Senator Mel Martinez (a Republican and former Bush cabinet member), who took to the senate floor and said it was "akin to an urban legend." The next day (June 12), Cheney weaseled out: "It is our understanding that, although Cuba has leased out exploration blocks 60 miles off the coast of southern Florida, which is closer than American firms are allowed to operate in that area, no Chinese firm is drilling there."

With video.

Nonetheless, the lie has been repeated by the likes of Roy Blunt (the mileage in his version is 45 miles off the Florida coast), John Boehner ("60 miles or less") and Fox "Business News" contributor and alleged "expert" on all-things-oil, Phil Flynn.

As recently as June 18, Boehner and George Will (the apparent originator of the lie), repudiated the propaganda ploy - designed to scare Americans into agreeing to give new offshore leases to the oil companies because the Commies are gettin' the oil, and we aren't.

Fast forward to Friday (June 20, 2008) and here comes Fox's hot shot "business news" guy, the editor of business news at the Fox News Channel for crying out loud, Neil Cavuto. Nine days — nine days after the lie was disproved and nine days after it generated countless headlines — there he was, telling it to his audience. This is what he said during Friday's top-of-the-show segment featuring Rep. Rob Andrews (D-NJ), captioned, "Can We Push OPEC to Pump More When We Don't Drill More?"

But, if you get more bang for your buck, congressman, off the Everglades, 50 miles off the Florida coast, 50 miles ah, on the western side of the Florida coast, on the Gulf of Mexico where the Chinese are drilling, where the Cubans are drilling, where even the Germans are drilling, but we can't legally be allowed to be drilling, there's something weird about that, isn't there?

Here's video:

Comment: (50 miles off the coast? They can't even synchronize their lies.) Last week, when Fox's Michelle Malkin made her "Obama's baby mama" comment, Fox blamed it on "a producer" who "exercised poor judgment." In this case, we're talking about the head guy, the managing editor of business news. According to his bio, "He is now the Senior Vice President of Business News, while continuing to serve as anchor and managing editor. Additionally, he directs content and business news coverage for the FOX Business Network." That's both the Fox "News" Channel (FNC) and the Fox Business Network (FBN) folks. The buck — when it comes to the business news that FNC and FBN report — stops at Cavuto's desk. Get that? He "directs content and business news coverage" for Fox and he spends his life in a newsroom. He knew this was a lie but he told it anyway. Propagandizing is more important to Fox than relaying the actual news and telling the truth. These people are shameless, immoral, unethical, ruthless, dangerous liars.
