If “Grapevine” Were “Fair And Balanced”

Reported by Priscilla - June 16, 2008 -

The Fox Special Report “Grapevine” is a way for Fox News to do right wing/republican talking points as short sound bites. In addition, there are frequent reports of democrats, sure to produce a chuckle, doing or saying something embarrassing to themselves or to other democrats. Last week, Hume had a “picking” about two Tennesse democrats (Fred Hobbs and Lincoln Davis) who aren’t endorsing Obama and who have made statements that Obama might be a terrorist (tee-hee). So that got me thinking - what if Hume had similar stories about republicans? What embarrassing little tidbits would be presented about republicans? By not including such “cullings” from the “vine,” Fox viewers are being deprived of some interesting and funny items which would allow them a total picture of what’s really going on.

First off – Hume could do a piece about how not all republicans are endorsing McCain. It seems that there are 14 republicans who aren’t thrilled about their candidate. Tom Tancredo said, regarding McCain, that (tee-hee) “I don’t like him, I don’t like him at all.” Hume likes material that has a little sex in it so here’s something, reported on the Fox website, that Hume could have “grapified” – “LOS ANGELES — A federal judge under scrutiny for posting sexually explicit material on his own Web site declared a mistrial Friday in an obscenity trial over which he was presiding.” (the porno involved women painted as farm animals) What wasn’t in the Fox article was something that Hume could have added and that is that Judge Kozinski, of that “liberal” 9th Circuit, was appointed by Ronald Reagan (tee-hee). Hume recently did a segment about happy Guantanamo prisoners who, according Major Kyndra Rotondo, a former member of the Guantanamo Bay prosecution team, get more privileges than prisoners in American prisons. If Hume wants his audience to get the full picture of detainment perhaps he could do a story about how abuse of prisoners is routine in Afghanistan and how, according to the former Army Secretary, “from the moment Guantanamo opened, it was obvious that a third of the prisoners didn’t belong there.” And if the son of a democratic politician was alleging that a former governor was out to get him, you can bet that Hume would do an “amusing” piece on “Grapevine” It seems that the son of the former (wild and crazy) Republican US Rep. John Sweeney claims that his (John Sweeney, Jr.) arrest in a violent brawl four years ago was part of a conspiracy (tee-hee), led by former Republican Governor George Pataki, to destroy his father.

But there is something happening now that, if it were connected to a democrat, would certainly make the “Grapevine” as it has the guilt by association meme coupled with a past offensive statement (in this case, not an imagined offense such as those attributed to “Hollywood liberals.”) This would be a great “Grapevine” and, unlike Hume, I will attribute my source. According to Think Progress, which sourced from the Houston Chronicle:

“on Friday, ABC reported that Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) campaign had canceled a fundraiser with a Texas oilman who compared rape to the weather while running for governor. “As long as it’s inevitable, you might as well lie back and enjoy it,” said Clayton Williams in 1990. But the Houston Chronicle now reports that yesterday afternoon, the campaign said that the event had simply been “postponed” until later this summer.”

Comment: Fox viewers miss out on a lot of good stuff! If you, dear readers, have any other interesting things for Hume to cover, do tell. Oh, and Brit, please, please do the Bobby Jindal exorcism story. Your viewers would love it.
