Megyn Kelly Describes Michelle Obama's Style: "Camelot With A Tan"

Reported by Deborah - June 6, 2008 -

Megyn Kelly did a segment today on FOX Election HQ, (June 7, 2008) comparing fashion styles of Michele Obama and Cindy McCain. Although great to see any report on FOX News humanizing Michelle Obama, the report seemed biased in Cindy McCain's favor making her look like a more appropriate First Lady. When Kelly said Michelle Obama's style was "Camelot with a tan", it was clear where she was trying to go with the segment. with video

Katrina Szish, In Style Magazine, was enthusiastic about Michelle Obama's fashion sense and especially liked the purple dress she wore on Tuesday night praising the low neckline and fitted waist. The chyrons under Michelle in the video shown did not describe or compliment her at all.

Cindy McCain got a different treatment. When Szish described McCain as "edgy", Kelly quickly noted that she was 53 and Obama 44 asking about McCain, "You say Cindy McCain is edgier?" There was a shot of McCain in a safari pants suit with the chyron "Cindy McCain Prefers High End Designers" and then "Cindy McCain Has Collection Of Patriotic Diamond Brooches".

Szish agreed McCain was edgier and wears all the great American designers. Kelly compared her to Nancy Reagan and the praise continued as different fashion shots of Cindy McCain flashed on the screen with descriptive and complimentary chyrons. The final shots of Obama and McCain used a chyron "First Lady Fashion: Cindy McCain vs Michelle Obama"

Take a look at the video. What's your take on the message? Although Kelly attributes the "Camelot" comment to others, why did she choose to repeat it at all?
