Bill O'Reilly Settles for McClellan Leftovers

Reported by Deborah - May 30, 2008 -

Bill O'Reilly had one of his anger episodes last night because Scott McClellan granted his first book interviews to NBC. The Today Show interview, yesterday morning, was hard enough for BOR to swallow but then McClellan dared to choose Keith Olbermann's Countdown instead of The O'Reilly Factor for his evening venue. Tonight, (May 30, 2008) Keith Olbermann acknowledged O'Reilly's pain and disappointment shedding more light on the real cause of Bill-O's fury.

Olbermann, citing information from Jossip, revealed that O'Reilly won't book authors unless they agree to go on The Factor first. Below is part of a comment left by McClellan's publisher's rep.

"When we reached out to them, because Scott did very much want to appear on Fox’s best-rated show, O’Reilly’s producer would not agree to have Scott come on unless they could “go first.” Since we already had long committed to other shows who demonstrated early interest, we could not just put O’Reilly at the front of the queue and renege on those existing commitments. Whereupon O’Reilly’s producer declined to have him on at all. We are happy to sell books to anyone, and have booked many an author on O’Reilly; but we are not happy to acquiesce to the “me first or I don’t play at all” tactics of show producers, nor do we like them then trying to pass off the absence of the guest as some kind of evil money-making ploy on our part and moral superiority on theirs."

Olbermann dug the knife a little deeper, tonight, showing a video mix of the Inside Edition freak out with last night's episode after reading the transcript in his Ted Baxter voice.

Hopefully Bill will take a nice drink and calm down before Monday night for his big interview with Scott McClellan. Yes, the King has lowered his standards and expectations. Leftovers are just fine.
