"American Axis of Evil" as defined by O'Reilly

Reported by Chrish - April 11, 2008 -

What do you get when you mix a loyal Democrat, a conservative-hatchet-man turned conservative-media-monitoring-guru, and a liberal billionaire? According to Bill O'Reilly it's the "American Axis of Evil." Not one to shy from hyperbole, O'Reilly's Talking Points Memo tonight 4/10/08 was liberally sprinkled with ad hominems like "vile," "despicable," "vicious character assassin," "evil," "ultra-dangerous," "garbage," and of course, "smear machine." O'Reilly dusted off the moronic flow chart that "proves" that George Soros has been funding MediaMatters all along, a charge which has been repeatedly denied.
With video.

O'Reilly is beside himself over the meeting which took place, reported by Politico.com, at Soros' New York apartment, where apparently Brock and Begala pitched an ad campaign intended to highlight John McCain's inconsistencies and inadequacies. A newly formed group, Progressive Media USA, will pick up the slack where the mainstream media has "fallen down on the job" when it comes to McCain.

O'Reilly railed that the group is fashioned after the SwiftBoat group that "hammered" John Kerry in 2004 - he said that the new group and others are set up to "attack" and "vilify" John McCain. He of course dragged MoveOn.org into it, because George Soros gave $1.46 million to the MoveOn.org Voter Fund in 2004 (in the form of matching funds to recruit additional small donors. (Wiki) Soros is trying to buy America, and he's close! O'Reilly's also distressed that MoveOn members donate millions for Barack Obama.

Mr. 5year/$50 million complained that Brock is paid "hundreds of thousands of dollars" per year and wondered who's paying him - like it's automatically nefarious to keep your finances private. We know who's paying O'Reilly - a foreign billionaire who is buying up American media and properties as fast as he can. Hmm.

NBC had to be swiped at; O'Reilly declared, with no evidence, that every word Media Matters puts out will be parroted on the NBC News (which he refuses to differentiate from MSNBC.) He calls this whole scenario "despicable," and then (this is my favorite part) SMEARS Barack Obama with a completely unrelated guilt by association reference to former (40 years ago) Weather Underground members William Ayers and Bernadette (sic) Dorhn, both of whom are now college professors. According to Wikipedia, Ayers and Obama served on the board of a philanthropic organization together for several years. According to O'Reilly, Obama has socialized with them.

Comment: This is pretty funny. O'Reilly is helpless to stop this - it's all legal, and the right does it too. What's got him so indignant is that Democrats, as Jim VandeHei of Politico noted in the following segment, have gotten so much better at it. The right is getting beaten at its own game, and "Independent" O'Reilly is none too pleased.

More on VandeHei later; here's the TPM video.
