Hannity’s Direct Tie To Neo-Nazi Once Again Ignored As He And FOX News Panel Hypocritically Smear Obama Over Tenuous Connection To Former Radical

Reported by Ellen - April 8, 2008 -

Sean Hannity was full of bullyboy braggadocio last night (4/7/08) as he and an unbalanced panel of two conservatives (plus one Democrat) repeatedly attacked Obama for his tenuous connection to former Weather Underground member, but now upstanding Chicago citizen, William Ayers. The two conservative guests, Erick Erickson, of RedState.com and Michael Steele, of GOPAC, repeatedly harped on the importance of judging someone by the company they keep. Therefore, I am sure Erickson and Steele will want to know about the large assortment of racists, including Neo-Nazi/white supremacist Hal Turner, with which Hannity has associated and in a much closer fashion. With video.

Hannity repeatedly preened during the show over the fact that he had been mentioned in a recent blog post by Ayers. Hannity often seems to think it’s prime time news whenever someone mentions him publicly but, oddly enough, he has yet to address the recent webcast and minor blog storm about his past friendship with Neo-Nazi Hal Turner.
As an Obama spokesperson noted in a recent Washington Post “Fact Checker” article on the subject, Obama was eight years old when Ayers and the Weather Underground were active. The Post reported,

“Whatever his past, Ayers is now a respected member of the Chicago intelligentsia, and still a member of the Woods Fund Board. The president of the Woods Fund, Deborah Harrington, said he had been selected for the board because of his solid academic credentials and "passion for social justice."

"This whole connection is a stretch," Harrington told me. "Barack was very well known in Chicago, and a highly respected legislator. It would be difficult to find people round here who never volunteered or contributed money to one of his campaigns."

Nevertheless, the conservative pundits couldn’t find the connection between Ayers and Obama more compelling. Erickson said, “Let’s look to the judgment of the people he surrounds himself with.”

Alan Colmes (who did a fine job, along with Democrat Bob Beckel) rightly asked, “You say, 'surrounds himself with.' In what capacity?”

“He and Ayers, they served on boards together,” Erickson answered. “They’ve admitted they’re friends.”

WRONG. Obama’s campaign said Obama and Ayers were “friendly,” as Hannity later explained. Hannity, on the other hand, seems to have been a real friend to Neo-Nazi Turner. Turner was invited to the set of Hannity & Colmes, they spoke off the air and Turner had the “back door” phone number to the studio at WABC. Furthermore, Hannity leapt to the defense of Duane “Dog” Chapman, as well as Imus, Bill Bennett and Mel Gibson. He also adjudged as innocent Police Officer Justin Volpe, a white man accused of sodomizing a black Haitian immigrant, Abner Louima. On his radio show, Hannity repeatedly smeared and ridiculed Louima up Volpe confessed. And let's not forget Rev. Jesse Lee "I encourage white people to speak out against blacks" Paterson. Hannity serves on the Advisory Board of Peterson's organization.

“(Obama) likes to surround himself with people who hate the United States,” Erickson said with obvious relish for smearing a patriot who has devoted his life to public service.

Hannity surrounds himself with people who hate blacks.

Hannity, with bullyboy self-importance, declared, “Here’s what we do know about the relationship. When asked about this, the Barack Obama campaign said they have a ‘friendly relationship.’ In 2002, we know that they were scheduled to speak together at the University of Chicago, or one of those universities and in 1997, they did an event together. And they were on a foundation together for all these years. So, Bob Beckel, the question here is, if a guy that admits to bombing the Pentagon, the Capitol, being a part of a group that is (sic) declared war against the United States of America, should a presidential candidate be (he made quotation marks in the air with his fingers) friendly with that person?”

And how about a national news personality who was even chummier with a white supremacist?

Erickson said “It’s just a question of his judgment. Obama has no good judgment when he surrounds himself with these people.”

Michael Steele said, “I think that’s a fair point.”

Hannity ratcheted up his hammy Hanctimony, “Should a potential president have a friendly relationship with a terrorist? Now let me take it one step further. This is a guy who said, quote, ‘Kill all the rich people. Break up their cars and apartments. Bring the revolution home. Kill your parents. That’s where it’s really at?”

Kudos to Bob Beckel for doing an excellent job of poking holes in every one of Hannity’s attacks. “How many speeches have they given together?” Beckel asked, his tone revealing that he knew the number was not high.

“I know of two, Hannity said.

“Does that mean they agree with each other?” Colmes asked.

No, to Hannity that meant they were friends. “Should you be friends with a terrorist?” Melodramatically putting his hands up, he added, “I would never be friends with an admitted terrorist.”

Maybe not, but you’d be friends with bigots and a Neo-Nazi/white supremacist.

Please contact Erickson and Steele and politiely let them know that we expect the same level of condemnation toward Hannity for his associations as for Obama. You can reach Steele at info@gopac.org. Erickson's email address is erick@erickerickson.org.

Feel free to let Hannity know that his hypocrisy and his racist connections are not going unnoticed. You can reach him at hannity@foxnews.com.

Unfortunately, I could not find contact info for Bob Beckel but I imagine you can contact him via comments@foxnews.com.

You can reach Colmes at colmes@foxnews.com.
