Fox "Business News" Ignores Surge in Unemployment Claims (407,000 New Claims Last Week Alone)

Reported by Melanie - April 3, 2008 -

This morning (April 3, 2008) the Labor Department released data showing that the number of people filing for unemployment...'surged' last week [to 407,000]...raising new fears about the labor market and...sparking concern that the economy is still weakening...despite the government's aggressive intervention lately. ... With the increase, weekly jobless claims rose to their highest level since September 17, 2005," immediately after Hurricane Katrina.

Neil Cavuto, Fox's "business news" guy didn't say a word about this today. As a matter of fact, during a segment about hot real estate markets (to counter all the talk about falling home prices), Cavuto said, "nationally the jobless rate is still very low" (to plant that though lest any diehard Fox watchers hear the above news (somewhere other than on Fox) and start worrying their ignorant little heads). Then he went on to host a segment about hot job sectors.

Oh, and if I depended on Cavuto for info as to the closing numbers on the Dow and Nasdaq, I'd be out of luck. He didn't mention those either.

Oh, and by the way again, what ever happened to "Fox Stox?" That regular Cavuto segment apparently went the way of Dow 13,000.
