Bill O'Reilly Should BeThankful for McCain-Feingold Act

Reported by Deborah - March 24, 2008 -

Bill O'Reilly's, in his most recent column, talks about McCain's Karma claiming that the McCain-Feingold Campaign Reform Act permitted "radical, left-wing billionaire George Soros" to set up Moveon.org and other 527s to "wreak havoc during voting season."

Here's how O'Reilly described the situation acting as if only Democrats will benefit from 527 organizations.
"So now we learn that Soros and his merry band have put together a number of 527's that will pony up an astounding $350 million for "issue" ads in the upcoming presidential campaign. That means much of that money will be used to pound John McCain into pudding."

Then he goes on to promote his theory about evil George Soros and his plan to destroy the American way of life.

"There is no question that a war chest of $350 million can do a lot of damage to any person or cause, especially when there's no honesty involved, as these ideologues can say just about anything. The print and TV ads will be relentless —everything McCain stands for will be hammered. After Soros gets through with him, uninformed voters will think Genghis Khan is running on the Republican ticket."

It's interesting to note that O'Reilly who claims to be an Independent and fair and balanced journalist, did not mention some of the destructive 527s on the right that managed to spring up without George Soros.

Remember that extremely toxic ad about Howard Dean created by Club for Growth or the one they did about John Kerry and flip- flopping. Here is an eye opening look at Club for Growth's activities.

Who can forget the most vicious Republican 527 in recent memory, The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. They appeared on The O'Reilly Factor countless times in 2004 and even then he managed to defend them with an attack on Soros.

So it's safe to say John McCain will not be a poor undefended victim of O'Reilly's scapegoat, George Soros. It will be interesting to see if O'Reilly condemns or promotes the ads and smear campaigns coming from the right-wing organizations during this election cycle.

One might say that George Soros and Moveon.org have been very good for O'Reilly and his recent culture war campaign. The News Hounds archives shows that BOR has gotten a lot of mileage from smearing Soros and where would he be without Moveon.org in his arsenal of left-wing symbols of evil.
