Bill O'Reilly Claims He's Skeptical About Barack Obama

Reported by Deborah - March 18, 2008 -

Tonight's O'Reilly Factor, 3/18/08, focused almost entirely on Barack Obama . O'Reilly tried his best to dismiss and dilute the power of the speech the Senator gave in Philadelphia today which brilliantly and carefully responded to the furor surrounding his relationship with his Pastor, Jeremiah Wright, Without directly smearing Obama, O'Reilly concentrated on making Rev Wright look like a dangerous radical empowered by Obamas support. He discussed Obama's campaign momentum and today's speech with A.B. Stoddard

BOR asked Stoddard if Obama would regain momentum after the speech. Stoddard didn't think so claiming he's been losing momentum since February and the speech today would only "stop the bleeding".

He asked Stoddard for two positives and two negatives she found in Obama's Philly speech today. BOR notes that Obamas undecided voter support had gone down because they don't like Wright although his base holds steady.

Stoddard said he " held nothing back" and " laid out the complexities of race" She also liked how he disavowed but did not disown Wright and honestly made a comparison to his grandmother which illustrated the problems from both white and black perspectives which she thought showed an awareness that would help his push for unity. She was referring to this part of his speech.

I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community. I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother – a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe.

Stoddard claimed that Obama missed an opportunity to explain the difference between hate and and anger. She also thought he should have done more to illustrate his patriotism

O'Reilly said, "I"m skeptical about Obama." He complained that Obama wants to be president for all the people but wouldn't debate on FOX News because he folded to Moveon funded by George Soros. ( There's that old Soros theme again)

Stoddard replied that he didn't debate because he was being "a wimp". BOR added " A president's not supposed to be a wimp".
