More Selective and Revealing Silence From Fox

Reported by Melanie - March 10, 2008

Insofar as the five year anniversary of the Iraq war is fast approaching, I decided to look back (March 10, 2008) at some of the posts I did around this time in years past. In the process, I happened across this post. When I clicked on this link -- I was reminded that Fox's head honcho "business news" guy, Neil Cavuto, once referred to the UN "oil for for food scandal" as "a scandal that has officially grown to dwarf all others in the history of man!"

Then I remembered reading last week that Texas oilman David B. Chalmers Jr. was sentenced to two years in prison for his involvement in the "oil for food scandal," yet I heard nothing about it on Fox's "premiere business news" show -- even though again, it relates to the biggest scandal "in the history of man!"

Comment: Fox played a big role in hyping and exaggerating the significance of the UN "oil for food scandal" (see this), with the ulterior motive of bashing the UN, Kofi Annan and others for their failure to march in lock step with the Bush administration's invasion of Iraq. Now that followers of the right have been sufficiently convinced that the UN is a worthless, inept organization, the fact that corrupt Texas oilmen are going to jail for their participation in the greatest scandal "in the history of man" isn't worth mentioning. The "bad guys" according to Fox, were people like the the outspoken British Iraq war opponent, George Galloway. Now, if he had been sentenced to two years in jail last Friday, I'm sure Fox would have reported it. But a Texas oilman? Nah. That doesn't fit the script.
