Fox Airs a Piece that Resurrects all the Obama Muslim/Madrasah Lies

Reported by Melanie - March 3, 2008 -

Apparently realizing that they've been successful in convincing (at least a segment of) the public that their lies about Barack Obama's fictitious "Muslim background" are true, the righties picked up on last night's 60 Minutes today (March 3, 2008) and ran with it. Citing the cover of today's New York Post (which is owned by Rupert Murdoch), Fox aired a segment that built on it and dredged up all those old lies, yet a-g-a-i-n.

Your World w/Neil Cavuto substitute host Brenda Buttner set it up over a chyron that read, "Questions of Faith Dogging Obama on the Campaign Trail." (Comment: With segments like 60 Minutes' and this one, is it any wonder why?!)

O My God. That's the headline in today's New York Post. Barack Obama saying he prays to Jesus every night as he fights rumors about his faith. Carolyn Shively in Dallas on how all this is playing out. Carolyn.

Shively:

Hi there Brenda. Barack Obama has been trying to put these rumors to rest for years now. He told a crowd in Ohio this weekend that the confusion over his religion has been deliberately perpetuated and he wants to put this finally to bed.

He told them I'm a devout Christian -- I've been a member of the same Christian church for 20 years and just like you, said yes, I pray to Jesus every night.

Now, rumors that he's a Muslim have been popping up on the Internet for the past several years. Some even say that if elected, Obama would take the oath of office on the Koran instead of the Bible. Others say he attended a radical madrasah as a child when he was living in Indonesia. All untrue, his people say.

But some of those rumors were fueled by a certain picture. The Drudge Report said that Hillary Clinton supporters were behind the circulation of this photo where he is wearing a turban on a trip to Africa two years ago. Clinton says she knows nothing about it but asked if she believed the rumor that Obama is a closet Muslim last night on 60 Minutes, Hillary Clinton had a strong answer then went a bit wishy washy saying, 'There's nothing to base that on as far as I know.' Brenda.

Buttner:

She usually does parse her words. Thank you so much.

Comment: The fact that the right is working so hard to turn people away from Obama is a sure sign that he would good for the people (not corporations). Otherwise, I find this so unethical and so immoral and so sickening that I'd better stop right here.
