Fox's Neil Cavuto Compares John McCain to Norman Bates

Reported by Melanie - February 6, 2008 -

Fox's "business news" guy, Neil Cavuto, didn't have time to talk about any business news whatsoever today (the Dow was down again) but, joining the likes of Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh, he did manage to get in some major digs at John McCain.

(February 6, 2008)

His first guests were conservatives Melanie Morgan and Karen Hanretty who discussed whether McCain is conservative enough. Morgan said no, Hanretty said yes.

Next came Politico's Roger Simon who talked about whether McCain and Mike Huckabee made some sort of backroom deal re delegates and a VP nomination.

Cavuto, who was "on location" in Pebble Beach, CA, hosted Lynn Swann (a Republican) next. They talked about how "no fiscal conservative" is "out in front on either side," and is that "bad for the economy?"

Next came conservative radio talk show host Tammy Bruce for the second discussion about whether McCain and Huckabee made a backroom deal.

After several reports about the tornados in the southeast, Mike Huckabee himself came on to talk about the tornados and that backroom deal. (He said he and McCain did not make one.) Then it was on to California Attorney General Gerry Brown (a Democrat) regarding whether McCain's win in Arizona and California shows that a "crackdown on 'illegals' is dead."

But the money quote of the hour came from Cavuto himself during the segment with Simon:

I'm also hearing a lot of people are waiting for Senator McCain to snap; for him to do something crazy and that just as he's on the verge of winning this, he's gonna go, you know, kinda like a Norman Bates deal.

Comment: A lot has been written about McCain's violent temper. It is indicative of how arrogantly far right Fox News is if Cavuto, who is in the business of deflecting criticism of Republicans, is willing to talk about this so flippantly and to go as far as to associate McCain with the gruseome stabbing scenes in the movie Psycho.
