Montel Williams deplores lack of Iraq casualties coverage as media obsesses about Heath Ledger

Reported by Chrish - January 28, 2008 -

Kudoes to Montel Williams for his appearance on FOX and Friends Saturday 1/26/08. The crew wanted him to talk about Heath Ledger's untimely death but the television talk-show host and 22-year US veteran griped instead that the media is obsessing about one celebrity death while ignoring the casualties in Iraq. With video, h/t news672.

Comment: Williams is exactly right. While FOX and, unfortunately, most of the corporate media keep putting on shows that appeal to viewers bored with or tired of the wars, our troops keep dying. This virtual blackout of news from Iraq, supplanted by gossip and human interest stories, allows the Bush administration to operate under the radar. Yes, news is available and even announced several times a day but the saturation coverage is all about meaningless distractions.

The soldier who died in the IED attack on Friday, by the way, was Pfc. Duncan Charles Crookston, 19, of Denver, Colorado, per Iraq Coalition Casualty Count.
