Newt Gingrich's Conspiracy Theory About The Clintons

Reported by Ellen - January 23, 2008 -

Newt Gingrich was back on Hannity & Colmes for another version of "fair and balanced" political analysis FOX News style: a conservative guest with unsubstantiated accusations against the Clintons. Maybe Dick Morris was under the weather. In tonight's installment of "Let's smear the Clintons," Gingrich alleged that the couple FOX News loves to hate is "methodically and ruthlessly" scheming to outdo Franklin Delano Roosevelt by "muscl(ing) their way into a second eight years." With video.

Naturally, the Clintons are plotting against Barack Obama, too. Gingrich told Alan Colmes they're "deliberately maneuvering Barack Obama into reducing him to being a normal politician… Their theory is that if this is gonna be a fight fought in the mud that they’ll win it because they win mud fights… The Clintons are setting up fights, starting with President Clinton describing a fairy tale and they’ve been deliberately setting up fights with, I think, Senator Clinton’s references to Martin Luther King, Jr. vs. Lyndon Johnson and they are taunting Obama down to their level because they can beat him if it’s just a fight between three ambitious politicians. He’s dangerous if he’s up here as a national figure of hope."

Later, with Sean Hannity, Gingrich said, "You’re watching the Clintons try to do something no one in American history’s succeeded in doing: muscle their way into a second eight years which would mean that they would actually outrank Franklin Delano Roosevelt in time in office. And they’re doing it methodically, ruthlessly and with enormous energy… I find it very formidable."

Hannity obsessed yet again about African American Rev. Calvin Butts and his alleged ability to get away with racism that white people can’t. “This is not an even playing field, here,” Hannity complained.

"It’s not an even field," Gingirch agreed. "This is a playing field weighted very heavily toward the left, with the left wing news media and the left wing academic community setting the terms of what fairness is and it ain’t fair if you’re conservative."

So much for personal responsibility. Wah, wah, wah, the world is just so unfair for those rich, white men! It’s the African Americans who get everything without earning it.
