Tell Bill O'Reilly to apologize (LOL) to homeless vets

Reported by Chrish - January 18, 2008 -

Brave New Films responds to another out-of-touch moment from FOX, this time Bill O'Reilly's repeated assertions that there are very few veterans in America who are homeless.

It only took one trip to a local facility for BNF blogger DJK to find numerous vets, formerly homeless, who can attest to the problem. Read, watch, and demand O'Reilly apologize to America's homeless vets.

(Much as I love the folks at BNF, this is futile - Bill O'Reilly NEVER apologizes. But go tell him he should anyway - there's always a first time.)

Note the evolution of the spin:

January 4:

"I mean, come on. The only thing sleeping under a bridge is that guy's brain." Responding to John Edwards' mention of 200,000 homeless vets.

January 16:

BOR: Well, we’re still looking for all the veterans sleeping under the bridges, Ed [Schultz], so if you find anybody, let us know, because that’s all the guy [Edwards] said for the last three nights…

ES: Well they’re out there, Bill. Don’t kid yourself.

BO: They may be out there, but there’s not many of them out there. Okay? So if you know where one is, Ed…

ES: Well, actually…Now, wait a minute…one in ..

BO: Ed, Ed. If you know where’s a veteran, sleeping under a bridge, you call me immediately, and we will make sure that man does not do it. Is not there.

January 17:
"Now I've said on this program that we will pay for homeless veterans to be taken to the Edwards mansion in North Carolina for shelter. Of course, that's an immature remark, I know that, but there's a reason I'm saying it.

Certainly there are homeless veterans, but it's not because of the economy. It's mostly because of addiction and mental illness, something politicians can do little about."
