Keep Your Eyes On Alan Colmes In 2008

Reported by Ellen - December 31, 2007 -

As 2007 draws to a close, I’ve been thinking about the year that was on Hannity & Colmes. Sean Hannity, who is nothing if not consistent, started off the year distorting facts to promote his pro-war, anti-liberal, anti-Democratic, bigoted agenda and he ended the year doing the same thing. Alan Colmes, on the other hand, seems to be going through some real changes that might be described as “coming into his own.” So, just for the fun of it, I consulted with a News Hounds friend and astrologer for her insights into the year ahead for my two most-watched co-hosts. She confirmed my hunch that this will likely be an exciting year for Colmes and a static one for Hannity.

I have long said that Colmes deserves far more credit than he gets for the job he does on FOX News. But lately he’s taken some courageous positions and begun to stake out his own territory. For example, he immediately questioned whether the United States’ policy toward Pakistan might have helped set in motion the events that led to the assassination of Benazir Bhutto – definitely not what I have come to expect on FOX News. While the Hannity & Colmes show “officially” ignored the questions about Rudy Giuliani’s shag fund, Colmes brought up the issue on his own in a discussion about the 2008 election. An obviously off-guard Hannity had trouble dealing with it. Colmes also destroyed Kathleen Willey’s credibility during her double segment in which FOX News helpfully posted on the screen excerpts from her new book attacking the Clintons. Recently, Colmes started his own blog, independent of FOX News, where he has even linked to News Hounds.

A couple of years ago, I researched Hannity's and Colmes' birth dates for a News Hounds friend, whom I’ll call Madame Marie (in honor of Bruce Springsteen), so that she could look at their astrological charts. At the time, Marie said something about Colmes’ Uranian transit bringing about changes and, as I recall, nothing particularly significant happening to Hannity. So I thought this would be a good time to get an update from her. Here’s what Marie emailed me:

This should be an exciting year for Colmes if he feels like taking some chances. A Uranian transit to his natal Mercury and Venus will bring a surge of creativity and courage. It will be hard for him to play it safe now and he could find himself taking some new but risky opportunities. His image will change as his identity separates from Hannity's and as people begin seeing him in a clearer light, his popularity will grow.

Hannity's year will be more of the same with little growth. A Pluto cycle will force him to deal with some internal struggles taking focus away from his career. Hannity's comfort zone will definitely shift and he'll need to make some adjustments in lifestyle requiring some painful introspection.

Ellen, I think Hannity is getting divorced.

Happy New Year, everybody. See ya in 2008!
