Kiefer Sutherland sentenced, no big whoop

Reported by Chrish - December 6, 2007 -

As further proof that FOX uses celebrity gossip only as a distraction from reporting the real news and only to bring scornful eyes to those they deem (un)worthy, this morning's FOX and Friends 12/6/07 spent a mere 16 seconds on Kiefer Sutherland's legal issues this morning.

So how does that support the argument they spend way too much time on celebrity news?

Because the 16 seconds was all it took to give the facts: Sutherland checked into Glendale City Jail for a 48-day sentence on a second DUI comviction. He will be on probation for 5 years, must complete 1.5 years of alcohol education and 6 months of therapy, and pay a $510 fine.

Sutherland is arguably FOX Television's biggest star, and sister company FOX News is not going to spend hours over days repeating his problem with alcohol, his irresponsible behavior, or showing clip after clip of his violent TV persona (the male counterpart to ParisLindsayBrittney's hot pants image). He's getting favorable treatment because of his money-making for News Corp., in contrast with the over-the-top round-the-clock breathless coverage of the aforementioned starlets. Are they more important? No, just more sexually exploitable (and we all know how FOX News loves their T&A) and therefore diversionary, and harming their images won't hurt News Corp's bottom line.
