Fox Coming Down On Handguns & Homeland Security?

Reported by Donna - November 14, 2007 -

Shepard Smith on Studio B says that the mayor in Philadephia was calling a rise in violent crime against police officers there insane. Now 2 more police officer have been shot on durty. Police say the 16 year old shooter fired at an undercover officer as the cops arrived to serve an arrest warrant The police officers were the 5th and 6th police oficers shot in the line of duty in the past 7 weeks.

Smith went to Rick Leventhal.

Leventhal reported that there are just too many illegal handguns on the street, so says the commissioner. He said it's not just cops but civilians that are being shot. More than 350 have been killed on the street this year already. He said it's not just about Homeland Security but he is looing for federal help and it's also about hometown security.

The 16 year old shooter name is Danea Phillips and has a prior record for disorderly conduct but now faces 9 counts of attempted murder along with gun violations and aggravated assault. Apparently he called his mom and confessed to the shooting and she called the police. (When I lived in Pennsylvania, they weren't allowed to give out minors names when crimes were involved)

The two officers who were shot have both been released from the hospital with leg and hip injuries and have been treated and released.

Comments: It was surprising to hear a story on gun control on Fox but the commissioner also asked for Homeland Security help. Are they not receiving enough Homeland Security assistance with 350 civlians killed this year?
