Keith Olbermann and Shawn Hornbeck's Parents Discuss Bill O'Reilly

Reported by Deborah - October 12, 2007 -

Bill O'Reilly, posing as an expert on childhood issues, is busy promoting his new book "Kids Are Americans Too". However, he has not yet apologized to Shawn Hornbeck for his false and insensitive comments suggesting that Hornbeck liked his life with the brutal monster who kidnapped him at age 11. Tonight, Craig and Pam Akers, shared their thoughts about Bill O'Reilly with Keith Olbermann on Countdown. 10/12/07

Pam Akers said that Shawn is doing well and was relieved that he didn't have to testify. When asked what she would say to Bill O'Reilly after the hurtful things he said about her son, she responded calmly. " Hold your opinions until the facts are out. Saying negative things hurts the victim more"

Craig Akers said that Shawn didn't find out about O'Reilly's comments until very recently when he overheard them discussing it. Akers noted that they couldn't care less about an apology from O'Reilly for themselves but their concerns were for their son.

Olbermann mentioned O'Reilly's recent announcement that he was not going to mention Hornbeck by name because he's been through enough. Olbermann pointed ou that since the Akers have started a foundation, www.shawnhornbeckfoundation.com, to help children in similar situations, mentioning his name was a positive thing. He praised Shawn to his beaming parents and then apologized for the media since Bill O'Reilly and others have not.

Maybe Bill O'Reilly should consider donating the proceeds from his new book to the Shawn Hornbeck Foundation.
