Are We Getting To Sean Hannity?

Reported by Ellen - September 29, 2007 -

Was that us Sean Hannity was whining about during last night’s Hannity & Colmes? Surely, he was complaining about Media Matters but I think he was including us in his diatribe about "left wing groups" monitoring him. With video.

In the middle of a discussion in which Hannity was complaining about a Colorado university’s newspaper headline, “F*** You Bush,” Hannity suddenly segued into an attack on Media Matters and people like us. He told a sympathetic Michael Reagan, “They have these groups out there that spend their entire days monitor(ing) people like yourself, Rush Limbaugh and me… they’re monitoring us, every single word, then if they hear something they don’t like, they take it out of context, they send it to other groups that may be actively involved politically. Then these groups go out there and attack advertisers and organize campaigns. Those that stifle free speech today are really coming from the left more often than not, aren’t they?”

“Yeah, they’re trying to shut us down. We’re not trying to shut them down,” Reagan disingenuously claimed. This, from the man who said that Howard Dean should be “taken out” and arrested after having said the US will not win the Iraq war.

Yet, when Alan Colmes confronted Reagan with the question, “Who’s stifling free speech on the left, Michael?” Reagan suddenly turned tail and claimed that it was Congress, supposedly trying to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine.

Memo to Hannity: For more than a year, I have provided, as has Media Matters, video of almost every segment I have discussed. People have disagreed with my analyses and my conclusions but nobody has ever written to tell me I have taken anything out of context. Once again, you can dish it out, but you can’t take it. Wah! Wah! Wah!
