On FOX News, It's OK For An Admiral To Call Petraeus An “Ass-Kissing Little Chickensh**” But When Clinton or MoveOn Criticizes Him, They Hate The Military

Reported by Ellen - September 15, 2007 -

FOX News’ panties are still in a twist over MoveOn.org. Besides the fact that MoveOn's latest ad criticizing General Petraeus gives the "real journalism" network a convenient distraction from talking about the real war in Iraq, let’s not forget that FOX associates MoveOn with us, Outfoxed and the Fox Attacks videos which have done much to damage their credibility. So, as is their wont, FOX responded to MoveOn's criticism of General Petraeus not with debate on the issues but with attacks and smears – not just on MoveOn but on Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and Democrats in general. As is Sean Hannity’s wont, he “disguised” his smears by accusing the other side of doing the smearing. But Alan Colmes hilariously exposed the hypocrisy by posting a quote from Petraeus’ superior calling him “an ass-kissing little chickensh**” and demanding that the Republican guest condemn the admiral. With video.

In another example of FOX News’ fairness and balance, last night's (9/14/07) Hannity & Colmes discussions about MoveOn included two Republican guests and one Democrat. In the first segment, Republican John Bolton was the only guest. In the second segment, video below, News Hounds top dog and our current “Best In Show” winner, Dr. Marc Lamont Hill shared the panel with Brad Blakeman, identified as the president of Freedom’s Watch, the progenitors of the recent support-the-war ads. What was not disclosed is that Blakeman is a Republican operative.

As part of the discussion, Hannity gave some free airtime to Blakeman’s group by showing their latest ad condemning MoveOn. With his transparently phony-baloney Hanctimony, Hannity complained that Democrats have made “one attack after another” on the military. Of course, the far more personalized Republican attacks on veterans John Kerry and Max Cleland didn’t figure into his equation. Only Hannity’s trumped-up distortions of Democrats’ critical comments about President Bush’s policy.

Blakeman said ominously, “MoveOn should watch themselves, there’s a new sheriff in town.”

Alan Colmes quickly mocked the hypocritical outrage. He told Blakeman, “You’re upset that big General Petraeus, who can face the enemy and face bullets, can’t face tough questioning from Democrats in the Senate.”

Then Colmes put up on the screen a quote from Petraeus’ superior, Admiral Fallon. In the quote, blown up to fill the viewers’ screens, Fallon called Petraeus “an ass-kissing little chickensh**” and added, “I hate people like that.”

“Why does Fallon hate the military?” Colmes sarcastically asked Blakeman. “Will you denounce Fallon for what he said about Petraeus? Will you denounce Admiral Fallon for those horrible words he said about General Petraeus?”

Blakeman said he wouldn’t.

“Of course not. Of course you won’t,” Colmes said.

Blakeman’s only defense was the ridiculous assertion that Colmes was mixing apples and oranges. But he never explained how that was so.

And, of course, there was no discussion about Rep. Boehner’s comments calling the troop deaths in Iraq “a small price.”
