Oh the irony. Gibson has psychologist define bullying as he rips absent Rosie O'Donnell

Reported by Chrish - July 12, 2007 -

John Gibson and guest, Cooper Lawrence, seemed to completely miss the irony and hypocrisy of their discussion tonight on The Big Story 7/11/07 of something Rosie O'Donnell did on a cruise for gay and lesbian families. Clueless, both of them.

Amended 7/13 to correct guest's name. I must have been thinking of Dick Morris, ugh.

Over a chyron "Rosie bullies Elisabeth; why can't she just let it go?" Gibson did his umpteenth segment on the former talk show host and something she did in international waters, for chrissake. Apparently during a talk of some sort O'Donnell showed a slide or blow-up of a shot of Hasselbeck, with added horns and a goatee turning Hasselbeck into a devil figure.

During the segment the video of O'Donnell demonstrating her upside-down gizmo, which she uses as part of her therapy, was shown repeatedly. This is the footage that prompted H&C guest Curtis Sliwa to remark that he'd like to take a few swings at her with a baseball bat, like a pinata.

Lawrence told Gibson that lashing out at someone who isn't there to defend themselves is called "bullying." She elaborated and noted that O'Donnell was on a gay cruise with all her "cohorts" and nobody would challenge her. "Social identity theory" says that when you're with your "in group" you can say whatever you want about the "out group," even if the facts aren't there.

Hmmm, where have we seen this before?

Lawrence reiterated that bullies go after the most vulnerable and go after them in an atmosphere where everyone will support what they say, and Gibson proposed that she just did it to get back in the "news."

John Gibson just can't let Rosie O'Donnell go!
