Don't Sweat the Big Stuff

Reported by Melanie - July 3, 2007 -

Neil Cavuto is the "managing editor of business news" for the Fox News Channel. He is also the "senior vice president of business news" at Fox and the "anchor and managing editor" of Fox's "premiere business news" program, Your World w/Neil Cavuto. Cavuto's a highfalutin guy. He's Mister Fox News/Business. He's working hard on the soon-to-debut Fox Business Channel while he keeps track of, you know, stocks, the price of gold and oil, housing starts, the value of the dollar compared to the Euro and the Yen. Inflation. Deficits. Bond yields. Treasury notes. Unemployment rates and factory orders. He thinks about all that stuff and he keeps track of it and he puts it all together and talks about it so the average Joe can understand it. Right?

Not exactly. No, life in the Fox business world is very simple. Very, very simple. So simple in fact that the above factors -- stock prices, gold, oil, inflation, employment rates, etc. -- aren't all that important. Understanding the business and economic world is easy; it's so easy that Cavuto can spend most of his time on Rupert Murdoch's politics. It isn't complicated folks. Really. All you need to know right now is that the economy is good. Period. And how does Cavuto know that? He explained it yesterday (July 2, 2007). Here it is. He said people are buying iPhones and they're going out to movies and restaurants so, hey, it's obvious. What more do you need to know?
