John Gibson bashes Edwards for being in the company of Danny Glover

Reported by Chrish - June 6, 2007 -

The trashing of candidate John Edwards continued on FOX today, with Big Story host Gibson channeling talking points through right-wing Heritage Foundation spokesman Brian Darling.

Darling, you may recall, was the author of the talking points regarding using Terry Schiavo to Republican political advantage and who has ties to Tom DeLay. Interestingly, his Heritage Foundation bio only says "Darling worked for two years as a partner in a Washington lobbying firm." Darling appeared twice last month to bash Rosie O'Donnell with trite talking points - is this really anywhere within his job description

"Brian Darling is Director of Senate Relations at The Heritage Foundation. He is responsible for educating Senators and their staffs about Heritage's latest research and policy recommendations.

Darling monitors political developments in the Senate – as well as relations between the Senate, the House of Representatives and the White House – to asses (sic) their likely impact on policy decisions. He also follows relations between the Senate, the House of Representatives and the White House. He frequently comments about congressional matters to the media and has been quoted in major newspapers. Darling also has appeared on ABC News, CBN, CNBC, CNN and MSNBC. " (Note: no FOX!!)

or the Heritage Foundation's mission statement?

"Founded in 1973, The Heritage Foundation is a research and educational institute - a think tank - whose mission is to formulate and promote conservative public policies based on the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense."

So there he was, joining in John Gibson's outrage that John Edwards appeared at a fundraiser and appeared friendly with actor Danny Glover. Anti-Glover talking points were mentioned (he's Edwards' "Hollywood friend," Glover is a supporter of anti-American Hugo (Oogo) Chavez) under the fair and balanced banner "Edwards and the enemy." Gibson framed the issue by asking WHAT is Edwards doing with the friend of an enemy of the United States? and answered himself saying there's one possible excuse: Edwards is unaware of Glover's friendship with Chavez.

Some gems from Darling: "It's a big outrage;" "it's a huge mistake;" "it shows desperation;" "he's looking for someone to help him get to the 'far-left' of the Democrat (sic) party;" "Glover is charter member of Hollywood hates America club;" Edwards is "tacking left" to get to the people who want to end the war now (News flash: it's not just the "far-left"); associating with Danny Glover or other people like him - Rosie O'Donnell, Sean Penn, Michael Moore, all these people driven by hatred of Bush... blames America first...is not going to help John Edwards.

No Big Story is complete without pictures (dumbing us down, one crummy graphic at a time) and today's showed a photo of Glover, one of Edwards, and one of Glover and Chavez embracing. The text read "Edwards and Glover" "Glover and Chavez" "Edwards campaigns with friend of anti-American Dictator."

Comment: It is amazing to watch a cable news (sic) network systematically work to take down a presidential candidate. Of course, Edwards was the first to decline to appear in FOX-sponsored debates so they have an axe to grind. I hope the other Democrats are taking notice of this.

Oh, and Darling's repeated use of the incorrect "Democrat" as an adjective only served to make him sound illiterate.
