Rev. Jerry Falwell Dead at 73

Reported by Marie Therese - May 15, 2007 -

FOX News has just now announced that Jerry Falwell is dead having been found unconscious in his office after missing an appointment. Falwell was the founder of the Moral Majority and a prominent figure in the GOP strategy to retain the South. Falwell is probably most well-known for his remarks made on September 11th, 2001 blaming homosexuals and abortionists for the destruction of the World Trade Center. "I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle," Fallwell told CNN. "... the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say 'you helped this happen.'" Falwell's influence had waned in the past few years as rival televangelists rose to prominence among the conservative Christian community.
