Bill O'Reilly Wants You To Believe He's Better Than Imus

Reported by Deborah - April 12, 2007 -

Bill O'Reilly devoted two segments tonight to show viewers that he's no Don Imus. He had his travelling mouth with a mic ambush Denver journalist, Joanne Ostrow, because she accused him of " spewing racist bile" during his meltdown with Geraldo . Then he invited a woman who accused him of " trafficing in hate" in an e mail on to defend her position which she failed to do effectively proving to him, at least, that he's above Imus and MSNBC.

Here's what Joanne Ostrow said that motivated O'Reilly to send his ambush guy out to Denver.

"When Bill O'Reilly nearly came out of his chair and across the desk at Geraldo Rivera on his Fox News show this week, he marked a new low in what passes for modern political discourse. Even by the shallow standards of cable news--and "The O'Reilly Factor" in particular--it was a stunningly foul performance. The clip quickly became the talk of YouTube

When a girl was killed by a drunk driver in Virginia, a driver who happened to be an undocumented immigrant, O'Reilly seized the moment to turn the issue into a tirade against illegal aliens. O'Reilly spewed racist bile; Rivera objected"

Ostrow's response to the ambush was pretty funny asking, " Why are you stalking me in a parking lot?" He continued his 60 minutes style badgering demanding to know why she would accuse BOR of such a thing. Ostrow calmly told him it was because he used " illegal alien" instead of "undocumented immigrant." Talking Mic informed Ostrow, " He doesn't like to be called a racist."

The editing was hardly disguised so it's hard to say what really happened in the parking lot. However, O'Reilly felt that was sufficient proof that Joanne Ostrow was all wrong and he , as always, was totally right and certainly not a racist like Imus.

Then BOR promised a big surprise for his viewers during the Back of the Book segment which turned out to be a woman, Kristy Mitchell, who had supposedly accused him of trafficking in hate which is what he said about MSNBC.

O'Reilly wanted Michell to give him examples and she made a reference to his tirade the other night about MSNBC and Imus.

" Hate sells! Hate sells! MSNBC traffics in hate. Shock Jocks traffic in hate. Rappers sell hate. In the hate business."

BOR didn't think that was enough asking for specifics but Mitchell got ruffled and couldn't come up with anything else except that he " labeled people." She explained that she didn't really watch his show too often.

O'Reilly with a knowing smile told Mitchell that she had been told what questions they would ask before the show. " We deal with facts. You need to understand." He was in self righteous bliss as he offered her the last word . Surely if Mitchell could not find examples of O'Reilly hate, even with time to prepare, there must be none to uncover was his unspoken message.

comment: It's hard to imagine that anyone who has ever seen his show would buy into tonight's manipulation. Bill O'Reilly and Don Imus are cut from the same cloth and O'Reilly knows it.
