Bill O'Reilly exploits grieving family to promote his agenda

Reported by Chrish - April 4, 2007 -

O'Reilly said in January that he too would have interviewed Shawn Hornbeck and his family if given the chance, even though he would not allow his child to do the same thing (if heaven forbid the circumstances were reversed), so it's abundantly clear that ratings and the agenda are what matter, not any sense of personal ethics. In case there was any doubt.

That point was driven home tonight 4/04/07 as Bill O'Reilly interviewed the father and older sister of a girl killed by a drunk driver. The man who hit the girl and her friend (who was also killed) is reportedly an illegal alien with multiple drunk driving arrests.

Now O'Reilly's actually on the same page as I am when it comes to drunk drivers - I think the penalties ought to be severe for the first offense, and should there be another offense they can throw away the key. He highlighted this case because the offenses took place in a so-called "sanctuary city." I'm just aghast that he would interview people the day of the funeral, and equally aghast that they would agree to be interviewed. How can you be looking out for the folks if you're willing to exploit them for your agenda? Even though O'Reilly offered them any help his show could offer, it was most uncomfortable and unprofessional, ambulance-chasing journalism, at its worst.
