On 4 Year Anniversary of Iraq War - Fox Says President Stresses Patience Then Success Is Possible

Reported by Donna - March 19, 2007 -

Today on Fox News Live with Jon Scott they did one segment on the 4 year anniversary of the start of the war in Iraq and the only opinion we heard was from the President and the President's view.

Jon Scott said, "Today marks 4 years since the war in Iraq began. President Bush has some remarks on the progress of the war after meeting his National Security Council and speaking with Iraq's Prime Minister by phone." He went to Mike Emmanuel at the White House.

Mike Emmanuel: "President Bush calling for patience with the situation in Iraq and says success is possible but will take months. The president noting that the priority right now is securing the Iraqi capital of Baghdad and says the new security plan for securing Baghdad is still in it's early stages. The Commander in Chief notes some of the progress that has been made on the ground in Iraq and says U.S. and Iraqi forces have set up joint security stations throughout Baghdad helping Iraqis reclaim their neighborhoods from terrorists and extremists.

Earlier today the President and Vice President Cheney participated in a video teleconference with Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki. The President says he heard some positive signs. President Bush said that the Iraqi leaders are starting to meet some of the benchmarks that have been set up for politcal reconciliation. And the President said it can be tempting to look at the challenges in Iraq and to conclude that the best option is to pack up and go home. He says while that may be satisfying in the short run the consequences for American security would be devastating. Here's President Bush a short time ago."

Switch to video of President Bush: "The new stategy will need more time to take affect and there will be good days and there will be bad days ahead as the security plan unfolds."

Mike Emmanuel: "So President Bush calling for patience four years after the invasion of Iraq began this coming as of course there are Democrats in control of Congress and the President calling on Congress to send him a war spending bill that will give General Petraeus and also U.S. troops the funding and the flexibility they need to get the job done."

Comments: The entire segment sounded scripted and from the White House. There was no reporting from Congress, nothing from a single Senator or Congressperson regarding the 4 year war anniversary. Have patience is the message and we can win this war. Fox mimics the President - no reporting.
