The FOX News War on America: Teachers Unions more dangerous than Al Qaeda.

Reported by Ellen - February 20, 2007 -

While the FOX News conservatives endlessly complain about liberals and Democrats “undermining” this country by exercising their Constitutional right to dissent, there’s no smear too disgraceful for a conservative to throw the other way. Last night on Hannity & Colmes (2/19/07), FOX News fave Neal Boortz announced that teachers unions are more dangerous than Al Qaeda. That was just the first of many attempts to paint Americans with whom he disagrees as equivalent to enemy combatants. Nobody on the “We Like America” network objected to the remarks. As a matter of fact, they were met with approval from Sean Hannity and, in all likelihood, Boortz will receive a repeat invitation. Updated with video.

Apparently, Boortz’ comments about the teachers unions are in the new book he was on the show to promote. Hannity, without any criticism, asked Boortz to explain why he thinks teachers unions are more dangerous than Al Qaeda. Boortz responded, “Look, Al Qaeda, they could bring a nuke into this country and kill a hundred thousand people with a well-placed nuke somewhere, OK? We would recover from that. It would be a terrible tragedy but the teachers unions in this country can destroy a generation.”

Hannity said appreciatively, “They are!”

Boortz continued, “Well, they are destroying a generation. They’re MUCH more dangerous. You know, we worry about Al Qaeda, and we should, but at the same time, let’s not let the teachers’ unions escape.”

So, should we round them up and send them to Gitmo? That’s what Boortz seems to be suggesting.

In the previous segment, Hannity had not-so-humorously joked that he would run for president in 2016, once he “got rid of” Alan Colmes. Now, the “patriotic” Hannity sounded like he’d love to get rid of any other Americans who might agree with Colmes. Hannity asked Boortz, “What do you think, really? I have to sit next to this guy every night, liberal – insanely liberal… What do you think about liberals? Say it… I want you to let it rip. What you say when you’ve had a cocktail at dinner.”

Boortz answered, “I consider them much the same way as I do a colonoscopy.” Big laughter from Hannity… and Colmes, too!

Boortz continued with this kneeslapper. “But I want to say this about Alan. I’ve listened to his show and he is… OK, so he’s a bedwetter, but he’s the fairest bedwetter I know.”

During his portion of the interview, Colmes quoted from a section of Boortz’ book accusing Democrats of harming the Iraq war effort. Colmes read, “Had (Democrats) not been so hell-bent on destroying the Bush presidency, if they’d shown a united front with the Commander-in-Chief and the troops, we’d have today complete victory in Iraq.”

“Freedom-loving” Hannity interrupted to say there were only 20 seconds left, although Colmes was only one and a half minutes into his segment. Hannity had had three and a half minutes for his.

Colmes added, “So it’s not the fault of the people running the war who’ve mismanaged it, it’s the Democrats and the liberal (critics? press? I couldn’t make out what he said.)”

Boortz said, “No, they absolutely mismanaged it. But our efforts in Iraq have been sabotaged by Democrat hatred of George Bush.”

Colmes reminded Boortz that it’s the “Democratic Party,” not the “Democrat” Party.

Boortz answered that he used the term “because it ticks them off.” Well, speaking of getting ticked off, it seems our Melanie really got under Boortz’ skin last month when she wrote about his appearance on “Your World with Neal Cavuto.” Maybe we can make it two for two.

14 seconds after Hannity told Colmes he had 20 seconds remaining, Hannity announced “We gotta run.” But not before he got in another slur against his co-host and co-Americans. “You see how much you agree with him? That is the dark side of you. That is the dark, twisted, sick side of you.”

What a pair of patriots!
