O'Reilly conveniently forgets Allard's stated reason for leaving NBC

Reported by Chrish - February 19, 2007 -

Bill O'Reilly's most ridiculous item last Thursday included this:

"On another far left front, respected military analyst Colonel Kenneth Allard has severed his relationship with NBC News after 10 years. Allard writes, quote, "Has anyone else noticed the NBC network's precipitous retreat from journalistic and ethical standards?"

But one of those "far-left smear sites" that O'Reilly fears actually tried to confirm the severed relationship, only to find that there was none. From ThinkProgress:

"According to NBC News, Allard had no ties with NBC to cut. “Mr. Allard is not under contract to NBC and hasn’t appeared on our air in nearly a year,” an NBC spokesperson told TVNewser. “In truth, there’s really nothing to sever.”

Only the week before, as noted by Deborah, Allard was a guest on the Factor and had this exchange:

BOR: Now you left NBC News, why?

ALLARD: Right. Well, partly because of the fact I suffered a stroke this last summer. So I have not been doing very much TV.

BOR: OK. So a health reason, and this, that, and the other thing.

Is O'Reilly trying to spin the story, or is he becoming forgetful?

Also of interest is the difference in these screenshots, the first from Think Progress, the second from FOXNews.com transcript of the 2/8/07 appearance:
